Day 5: Winchester to London

So today we parted the fine city of Winchester and headed to London. The train ride into London was fortunately on time and uneventful, even getting to the hotel was easy enough. After hunting around for a decent internet connection it was decided that Ilana was going to feed the squirrels in St James Park some peanuts. Apparently this is a trick that was taught to her by an old English woman the last time Ilana was in the park. On the way to the park we passed through Harrod’s where there is a shrine to the late Princess Diana and Dodi.

We also passed by Buckingham Palace.

So we lugged a gigantic bag full of peanuts from Winchester just to feed these poor starving squirrels. Evidently these squirrels are very friendly and come up and take peanuts directly from your hand if you have just a touch of patience. These little rodents will then bury the prize you gave them and come back for more. They will bury food for hours if you keep giving them food.

After the squirrels, I ate the remaining peanuts as we walked by Big Ben where a demonstration was underway protesting the genocide occurring in Sri Lanka. I don’t know the details so if anyone knows, send us an email. Curious what was going on.

Afterward we stopped for a pint then made our way to meet our good friend Mia who showed us around and we had some fine dim sum for dinner. Thanks Mia! It was great to see you!

  3. It's a lot of patience to not chase squirrels around the park.
