Day 13: Buenos Aires

We planned on visiting the section of La Boca which doesn't have the best of reputations for safety but decided to cancel when we were advised to take a cab to the only "safe" section of town, which apparently is a pure tourist trap. If anyone is interested you can read more about it here:

Instead we decided to make our way to Palermo and stroll amongst the stretch of parks and gardens that are there. But first we stopped at the Eva Peron museum to learn a little more about the woman who inspired a huge movement for this city and country. Ilana and I are still debating whether we think she was genuinely a good person and enjoyed helping people or if she found her role as first lady to be the greatest "celebrity" role she could find (since she started her career in acting and wound up married to the president of Argentina). Either way she did some good things for the people here and seeing old video footage of her speeches and her funeral showed how many of the people here loved her (although she did have her share of enemies).

After the museum we ventured a few blocks towards the Jardin Japones (Japanese Garden) which was built in the 60's. While it is not an authentic Argentinian sight it truly is an amazingly beautiful and tranquil garden. Complete with small bridges, and a lake, amongst other things. Once you walk in it makes you want to sit down and just collect yourself.

At night we decided to attend a tango show. It was this small old style club that served dinner and drinks and had a full show at the end. For those that have not seen a proper tango show, it is fascinating to watch the moves (and the women aren't too shabby either).
