After lunch, we explored the cemetery which is more like a small town of mausoleums.
We did the obligatory visit to Eva Peron's burial spot, which is in the mausoleum of her father's family (the Duartes).
We then went to see La Flor - an enormous flower sculpture that opens and closes based on the rising and setting of the sun. It's very simple but extremely appealing for some reason. It's sitting in a huge concrete pool of water which overflows some of the edges.
On our walk back to the hotel, we stopped to peek into one of the fanciest hotels in Buenos Aires - the Alvear Palace. It's in a very swanky area with a ton of high end stores, including this Ralph Lauren store that's located in a converted mansion.
We decided to lay low the rest of the evening and just ate locally, but tomorrow's plan is to explore the area of San Telmo which has an Antiques Fair every Sunday supposedly.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write comments - we love reading them!
Oh, and a Happy Birthday shout out to our roommate Dave back in NYC!
Lastly, for my mother who collects sunsets, here is a photo from our hotel balcony tonight:

ReplyDeleteThank you for my sunset. It is definitely one for the collection. I love this blogging business. Buenos Aires is looking better all the time. I am playing a lot of Tangos thinking of both of you.
You guys are doing great with the blog!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the flower sculpture that opens and closes with the sun! How cool is that! Glad you are having such a great time!
