Day 99: Brantome, France

Today was a scorcher. The temperature gauge in our rental car said it was 41 degrees in the blazing sun (105 Fahrenheit). We spent the better part of the day at the house, lounging around the pool, and playing cards.

In the evening we all changed up and headed to the town of Brantome, which attempts to bill itself as the "Venice" of this part of France. Although the town is picturesque, a river running through the city, with multiple bridges, old stone buildings and narrow winding streets, it is a far cry from reminding anyone of Venice. Despite that claim, it was a beautiful spot to visit and stroll around. We spent about an hour walking through the town, following the river in its winding path around the streets.

(The view of the river from the parking lot. Yes, its that picturesque that the parking sees this view.)

(View from the parking lot in the other direction.)

(Siena & Dave taking in the scenery in the middle of one of the bridges in town.)

(Taken from a bridge looking at the river and the abbey on the right.)

(The church next to the abbey.)

(From the street looking at a 90 degree turn in the river. The water looks perfectly still before it falls slightly halfway up the photo.)

(Looking back at the abbey and church.)

(A fancy restaurant that sits right along the river.)

(And the last picture of the scenery.)

We had dinner in a small square next to the river before driving home for another marathon game of Sleuth!

(I hate to have to admit it but I beat the other sleuthers!)
