Day 92: San Sebastian/Pamplona, Spain

Even though we needed to get to Pamplona today, we saw the beautiful sunshine this morning and decided to maximize our sun time before leaving. Here are a few more photos of the beach before we leave:

Here is the cafe on the beach where we had lunch:

After an hour drive, we checked into our quad apartment in Pamplona and set off on the 20 minute walk to the old town center where all of the festivities are. On the way, we walked through a local park with a fountain:

Here is the Spanish department store El Corte Ingles with its festive San Fermin banner:

Here is another beautiful building with fountains in front (no idea what it is though - maybe the town hall?)

Although we were not in the proper red and white San Fermin garb, we did our best to fit into the festive atmosphere. Here is one of Frank's videos which gives some sense of the crowds and their outfits. We're in the main square.

We had dinner in the main square (Plaza del Castillo) and then wandered around a bit to fully appreciate the energetic San Fermin atmosphere. There are all sorts of events/concerts around the city and various bands wandering the streets.

This is another beautiful building in the old town that I believe used to be a house (no idea what it is now):

Here is the crew as we walked through the crazy San Fermin streets:

Here is a view of the city from up above:

On our walk home, Sien and I bought red handkerchiefs so we can blend a bit better into the San Fermin festive crowd. We are happy to have our hotel/apartment in a quiet area outside the central crazy area but we are an easy 20 minute walk away from all the action. None of us is particularly excited to get too involved in the San Fermin revelry so we will probably find an activity outside the city during the day tomorrow.
