Day 91: San Sebastian, Spain

We woke up in our beach side hotel with clouds in the sky but the weather promised some afternoon sun so the group's spirits remained positive. We ate breakfast on the move while we walked toward Mount Urgull in San Sebastian. Mount Urgull is the hill in this video that you see as I pan towards the right, with the statue mounted on the top. This is also the awesome sight we get from our balcony!

We made our way up the winding hill to the castle on top for the these spectacular views.

I took this video when we descending back towards the coast.

We had a quick bite to eat as the sun came out and we spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach. Dave & I successfully swam out to one of the various floating platforms in the bay. Underestimating the distance, we agreed when we reached the dock that the ocean humbled us a little. Not that I was ever casual about Rudy's Ironman competitions but I have a new respect for what he goes through in those events.

(Dave & I contemplating how to get back alive)

At night we strolled back to the old quarter and found a great restaurant for dinner. Plus a little gelato on the way home made it an excellent vacation day.

  1. I like the ladder/slide on the platform. Did you use it for your return swim?

  2. It's only 2.4 miles (3.86 Kilometers - because we know you love the metric system now). So non-stop swimming for me for about 90 minutes. Pros do it in about 52.
