Day 93: Lekunberri, Spain

After having gotten a feel for the festivities of San Fermin we woke up with the idea to check out some neighboring towns and take a good nature hike. Ilana & Siena consulted the almighty travel guides that we have and chose Lekunberri, which is about 30km from Pamplona. We drove the quick half hour, got a map, some sandwiches, some water, and started on our 15km hike. And yet again I can't help but think that this hike, that has us all sore and tired, would just be some childish warm up for Rudy and his Ironman competitions. Anyway, it was some good exercise and some excellent views, despite some shoddy signage along the way.

(We came across a few horses taking shelter in a collapsing stone house)

(Siena & Dave pretty much walked faster than us the whole time)

We spent the evening on our terrace eating cheese, meat, wine, and beer. We need our rest for the early rise (5:15am) to see the running of the bulls tomorrow. We have reserved a balcony view so we don't have to fight the crowds. We are unanimously less excited as we got news of someone's death this morning here, not to mention that we found out that these bulls are killed in the evening during the bullfights. Although the festivities are quite energetic and fun, we are hoping they one day ban the whole act of running and killing bulls. And I take full responsibility for this stop on our trip as it was fully my idea.

  1. You know something Chupalo17, with all this Ironman talk and the swimming and hiking you're doing, I think that after this trip you should be in shape to begin Ironman training for 2010. You can even do it in a country you are not seeing on this around the world tour, like Germany. What do say Command Sergeant?!
