Day 51: Tokyo, Japan

Got up at 5am today to get a jump on the Tsukiji Fish Market (think Fulton Fish Market on steroids). They have tuna auctions and rows and rows of stalls of all kinds of fish and funky oceanic life forms. After you walk through the bustling market there are little sushi shops very close by to enjoy a nice sushi breakfast, and that's what we did!! (There was some clam type creature in the sushi shop that was still moving around while we ate.)

(Breakfast. The item second to the right in the case was moving while we ate.)

(Ilana forced me to add this picture because she laughed for about an hour straight. As soon as we stepped outside this morning the wind ripped the cover right off the spokes of my umbrella.)

After our post breakfast nap we headed toward the neighborhood of Shinjuku to do a little shopping since my only pair of sneakers on this trip are not holding up well and got completely trashed in the rain this morning. The neighborhood is a major commercial hub in Tokyo and is Japan's busiest railway station, serving over two million people daily!

Next I forced Ilana to accompany me to the neighborhood of Akihabara, aka "Electric Town". I can't miss the opportunity to visit the major electronics districts while passing through our Asian destinations. The netbook I have my eye on is still cheaper in the US but it's cool to see these bustling shops and streets.

Then onto dinner at a robatayaki style Japanese restaurant. Basically where the chefs grill your food in front of you and serve you with long wooden paddles. Pretty cool dining experience although they skewer live prawls in front of you right before they put them on the grill.

And lastly, the view from our hotel room at night. We are in the area of Shiodome, kind of like the downtown area.

TJ & Christopher: we can see the bullet train pass by from our hotel room. I will try and get a closer picture for you!
