Day 43: Singapore

Well it was mostly a travel day. We left the Hunter Valley region of Australia around 1oam for a drive back to the airport then a 7+ hour flight Singapore. Therefore I will just post some interesting trivia I read while on the plane about Singapore.

  • Singapore is located one degree north of the equator
  • The name Singapore is derived from the word “Singapura” or “Lion City” as legend has it that a Sumatran prince sighted a beast that looked like a lion when he first set foot on the island in the 14th century.
  • Singapore is roughly 77% Chinese, 14% Malay, and 8% Indian
  • Chewing gum has been illegal since 1992
  • Singapore is the 2nd most densely population country in the world after Monaco
  • The Singapore Sling was first served in 1915
