Day 49: Seoul, South Korea

Our last full day in Seoul and Ilana and I have decided to make it a casual day before meeting up with Britt's friends to go to a baseball game. We went back to the neighborhood of Insa-dong and chose a random Korean restaurant to eat at, bought some postcards, and visited the nearby Buddhist temple, Jogyesa. There was a memorial service going on as well as a room of people praying and chanting. The sounds of the chant are actually very cool to listen to.

On the way back to our hotel we swung by another palace but didn't have time to go in for the 90 minute tour, called Changgyeonggung Palace.

After a quick rest we met our new friends (Peter & Debbie) as well as 5 more of their friends (who work in Seoul teaching English) to go to the baseball stadium to see the Doosan Bears play the Woori Heroes. Weekday games don't get too crowded but we still had a blast. Tickets two rows behind 1st base were only $10 and you can buy large pubs cans of beer (3 for $8!!) on the street and carry them into the stadium (they even allow you to go back outside the stadium to buy more if you want to). The Heroes crushed the Bears 7-2.

(They sell squid jerky for a snack)

And lastly we hopped the crowded train back to our neighborhood (Sinchon) for dinner.

We've had a blast here in Seoul. We can't thank Britt, Debbie, & Peter enough for taking us around while we were here. It really made our stay in Seoul one of the best times so far on this trip. We really had so much fun.

See you guys in NYC!

  1. I caught up on the South Korea today and forgot to remind you earlier (or ask now) if you had any of the "UdonBibimakibob"? Could the anti-aircraft guns take down a Warhawk?!
