Day 77: Ronda/Arcos/Sevilla, Spain

We woke up, had another lush breakfast at the Parador, said one last goodbye to our pool, and hit the road to Sevilla (with a planned stop for lunch at Arcos de la Frontera).

On our way to Arcos we drove through kilometers and kilometers of sunflower fields.

Our stop in Arcos de la Frontera was brief but worth it. We drove up to the highest point in the town where there was yet another Parador perched up high along the cliff. Arcos de la Frontera has an amazing history of Roman occupation to Stone Age artifacts found in the area. It was under Moorish rule until some time in the 13th century when the Catholic Spanish expelled the Moors.

(We walked around the town briefly. Believe it or not I drove our car through the archways in this picture. It just fit.)

(This town was one of the coolest places I have had the chance to drive through. The streets were so tight that people walking in them had to duck into doorways for us to pass. At one point we actually drove through a small square with people eating. I could have touched their table as we drove passed.)

By the time we got to Sevilla we had just enough time to check in, then walk around quickly to get a feel for our neighborhood before meeting some friends for a standard 10pm dinner reservation. While Ilana was in Paris last fall she meet a few people in her French class, one of whom (Dani) happens to live in Sevilla. He invited us to dinner along with his girlfriend Lucia, his sister Ana, Ana's husband Mario, and Mario's brother Antonio. We had a great dinner on a rooftop terrace of a restaurant owned by Dani's cousin. It was phenomenal to have dinner with locals and be invited along as a long time friend. We ate, drank, and chatted until nearly 3am. We can't thank them all enough for inviting us along and treating us so hospitably. It really made our first day in Sevilla a great time for us. Thank you!
