Sunday here in Madrid means crazy big flea market. From 9am until 2pm this area in southern Madrid is packed with stalls and people shopping. It's not as easy to see but this particular street is packed with people all the way down to the end of the picture. Sort of chaotic but a lively event. We bought a hacky sack with the aim of getting some exercise on this trip.
We jumped on the subway heading over to one of the many parks in the city (Parque del Oeste: West Park). This one is famous for having a fantastic rose garden to stroll through and also the Temple de Debod. The egyptian temple dates a couple of centuries BC and was donated to and rebuilt in Spain in 1968 in gratitude for Spain's help in other historic sites on Egypt.
Next we tackled one of the items on Ilana's wishlist while we were here for the week, and that was to watch a Spanish movie in the theater. We watched "7 minutos" which was actually filmed in Madrid and even had a scene of the exact movie theater that we were watching it in. I followed along easily enough even though my Spanish speaking ability is bordering horrible.
On the way home to relax before dinner I saw a sign that Spain was playing New Zealand in soccer. After some quick research I found that the Confederations Cup started today (matches being played in South Africa). So I did the proper thing and dragged Ilana to a pub to watch the game before dinner. It quickly turned into a blow out as Spain was leading 4-0 at the half so we ventured off for dinner in the Plaza de Santa Ana for a nice meal. (Next game June-17)
Ilana and I have been 'discussing' who is a better photographer on this trip. So we've decided to have a small challenge using our photos of roses in the garden. We are each picking our best photo and asking for whoever cares to vote, to vote. We won't list which photo is whose so you'll just have to vote either "photo 1" or "photo 2". You can either leave your vote in the comment section or just send either one of us an email. We'll list the winner in a week. So here goes:
